Green Bay Packers' 2008 "Unofficial" Salary Cap
'rule-of 51' is in effect... Wednesday, March 26: Updated cap information is based on a file uploaded to the AMCapNFL group. The NFLPA web site apparently had a snafu on ~15-16 March that enabled anybody full access to complete contract details on all NFL players. Unfortunately for me, I was in the hospital and unable to download individual contract data on any of the Packers. Regardless, the file from the AMCapNFL group was valuable and provided individual player total cap value for 2008.
Players with cap value numbers that have green background are changes to previous values. Although there are numerous changes to individual cap values, the changes had minimal affect on total team cap when compared to my previous update ($35,138,226 available cap on 5 March -- $35,375,396 with changes). However, since the AMCapNFL information the Packers have signed LBs Brandon Chillar and Tracy White. Based on MJS reporting, Brandon Chillar's 2008 cap value will likely be $3.15m but will escalate if the playing time incentives are reached. Regarding Tracy White, MJS reporting didn't disclose detailed contract information so I had to estimate his 2008 cap value.
Finally, Brett's cap value should technically be $12.8m because he hasn't filed official retirement paperwork. If he waits until after 1 June, the Packers will only count his 2008 PRSB ($800k) and the remaining portion ($600k) will count towards the 2009 cap.
